Nearly a week ago posted an image…. It was my dream itinerary for our trip to Ireland in June.
After looking at the amount of time we actually had, I came to the (very sad) realization that there was no way we could cover that many miles in 9 days. In other words, I had to follow my own advice and not try to see too much.
Sadly, I had to cut Northern Ireland from our travel plans. This was a painful, but necessary, editing as the B&Bs that have invited us to stay with them are across the center of the country.
So, without further ado, our Ireland itinerary for June!
We begin in Dublin, but leave right away, heading straight to Kinnity in County Offaly. We’ll spend two nights at the lovely Ardmore Country House. Birr Castle, home of the famous telescope and science center, and Leap Castle, said to be Ireland’s most haunted. We’ll likely be doing quite a bit of walking in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, too.
From Kinnity we head to Ireland’s “wild west” coast, and the rugged beauty of Connemara. We will be based in Clifden for three nights, staying two nights at Ocean Villa Country Home and one night at Kingston House. While in Connemara we will be visiting Kylemore Abbey (someplace I have wanted to see since I took my first trip to Ireland) and the Quiet Man museum in Cong. I’m hoping the weather cooperates so we can spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoor offerings- and the Clifden 2012 Celebration.
I’m very lucky to have made a few friends in Ireland, one of whom is Eoin from Bitesize Irish Gaelic. We’ll spend an evening with him and his wife Sasa in Limerick, before heading a bit further south to The Old Bank B&B in Braff for two nights. One of our days in Braff we will have a private guide to show us the highlights of Ballyhoura Country, so I’m hoping we see some things that lie far off the “tourist track”.
And then, sadly, we head back toward Dublin for a B&B near the airport (which I have yet to book- I should get to that) for our flight out the next morning.
Though it doesn’t seem like much for 9 days in Ireland, I know we will be kept busy and I will have much to share. Are there any places near to where we will be visiting that we shouldn’t miss or that you want us to visit? Please let me know!
